The initiative aimed to restore and enhance the ecological integrity and biodiversity of the coastal area of the island while heightening awareness of the crucial role mangrove ecosystems play in environmental conservation and climate resilience. Volunteers participated in hands-on activities, including planting mangrove saplings and a beach clean-up, which are crucial to protect shorelines from erosion, enhancing water quality, and serving as significant carbon sinks to combat climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

This joint endeavour also celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Mah Meri tribe, one of the 19 indigenous tribes in Malaysia, which has long served as stewards of the unique coastal landscape. Volunteers took part in traditional activities of the tribe such as Leaf Origami, Lastik & blowpipe, Atap weaving, and a Woodcarving demonstration, showcasing the tribe\u2019s artistry and craftsmanship. A traditional Mah Meri wedding ceremony served as a highlight, offering guests insights into the tribe\u2019s distinctive culture.<\/span><\/p>\n
